The resolution was drafted on March 31 and presented at a Grand County Board of County Commissioners meeting on April 12.
Artificial intelligence is being embraced for administrative tasks, assistance to citizens and visitors, and consolidation of data sets. The county has laid out a plan for how it aims to integrate this new technology into the workflows of various departments.
Governmental standards stipulate that human validation is required for “safety, legal, financial, personnel, or service delivery decisions.” Adherence to the Colorado AI Act (SB 24-205) was also made mandatory.
Citizens and visitors will be notified when using artificial intelligence tools and personal data is said to be protected by advanced cybersecurity. The resolution also required regular auditing for artificial intelligence tools.
Moving forward, the board will establish an “AI Innovation Working Group” composed of department staff, elected officials and information technology professionals that will “incorporate regular community consultation and feedback mechanisms to identify “low-risk, high-impact” pilot projects for the 2027 fiscal year,” according to the document.
The resolution unanimously passed with no edits at the Grand County Board of County Commissioners meeting on July 21.
