RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - South Dakota Mines will bring together a U.S. senator and artificial intelligence experts Friday for a discussion on how AI could affect education, engineering, research and the workforce.
The Future of Artificial Intelligence campus conversation is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Surbeck Center Beck Ballroom.
The event will feature Sen. Mike Rounds, along with Anthony Cimino and Dylan Shields of AI company Anthropic.
Organizers say the discussion will take a closer look at opportunities and challenges surrounding rapidly advancing AI, including workforce development, technological innovation, national policy and security.
Topics are expected to include the skills employers may seek in an AI-driven economy, the role of AI in education and engineering, and how the technology could be used in research.
Cimino leads federal affairs at Anthropic, while Shields works on the company’s technical staff and public policy team.
Rounds serves as co-chair of the bipartisan Senate Artificial Intelligence Caucus and has been involved in congressional efforts focused on AI policy.
Rounds and Cimino are also scheduled to speak during the opening address of the 4M Expo at 10 a.m. Oct. 3 in the Beck Ballroom.
South Dakota Mines officials say the discussions are intended to help students, educators and community members understand how AI could affect future careers, research and public policy.
