MAIN offers free AI resources for Mississippians - WLOX

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) — Dr. Kollin Napier, chief artificial intelligence officer for the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network, known as MAIN, said responsible use of AI is key.

MAIN is a statewide software program that offers no-cost resources for Mississippians to learn about AI and how it can be incorporated into everyday life.

“You can see potentially increase in revenue, you can free up time of your employees to focus on higher priority tasks, and you can optimize your workflow. There are so many use cases related to AI from a general standpoint,” Napier said.

Napier spoke to both the Gulf Coast Chamber and Business Council. He shared ways AI can be a helpful agent for business owners and how MAIN can help them understand its capabilities.

Gulf Coast Business Council President Jamie Miller said MAIN is Mississippi’s way of keeping up with a tech-centric world.

“Make them more efficient as an organization, make them be more productive and ultimately upscale our workforce that I think levels the playing field in Mississippi,” Miller said.

While AI can be a helpful tool, Napier stressed the importance of human input. He said the process may be efficient but software can still make mistakes.

“We as the humans have to delegate and be accountable, and be that final authoritative figure to understand and decide this is what I want and need or no this is not,” Napier said.

Mississippi business owners are tapping into AI. Resources are available through MAIN.
