UNESCO Talks at the Lima International Book Fair 2026

For the first time, UNESCO Peru will participate in the Lima International Book Fair (FIL Lima), one of the country's leading cultural and civic gathering spaces, by presenting the series The Ethical Horizons of Artificial Intelligence: Technology in the Service of People.

The series comprises two panel discussions aimed at fostering public reflection on the principles, rights and responsibilities that should guide technological transformation. The sessions will also address the need to establish ethical frameworks and governance mechanisms that make it possible to harness the benefits of artificial intelligence while responding appropriately to its potential risks.

The first session, to be held on 24 July, will feature former President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti, who will be interviewed by Guiomar Alonso, UNESCO Representative in Peru. The event is organized in partnership with the UNESCO Chair on Knowledge and Innovation for Social Transformations at the University of the Pacific and will provide an opportunity to reflect on how technological innovation can be directed towards people's well-being and sustainable development.

The second session, to be held on 31 July, will feature Astrid Arbildo, Technical Coordinator at UNESCO Peru, interviewing Dilmar Villena, a lawyer specializing in technology regulation and Executive Director of Hiperderecho. The discussion will continue the dialogue on the conditions needed to promote the development and use of artificial intelligence that are transparent, inclusive, responsible and respectful of human rights.
