Wakulla County School Board approves AI policy ahead of upcoming school year - WCTV

CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Wakulla County School Board approved an AI policy guideline for the district this upcoming school year at its Monday meeting.

According to the guidelines, the district will allow the use of AI, however, users are not allowed to upload personally identifiable information into any AI tool or platform unless authorized by the district.

Employees are expected not to rely on AI output without reviewing for accuracy or bias and students are not to use AI for completing assignments in place of their own thinking.

School board officials say AI is a growing entity and something being used to an extent in many areas.

“The idea behind AI is to use it to strengthen our processes,” Superintendent Richard Myhre said. “It’s not going to replace creativity. But there are some instances where we think its use would be an enhancement on our efficiencies. We would like to see it gradually emplaced.”

School officials say they will amend their policy as the conversation of AI continues in legislation, but for now, they needed a starting point moving into the school year.
