Purdue, LEGO Education Team Up to Bring AI Learning to Classrooms Across Indiana - WLFI

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday life, and Purdue University is helping teachers bring those lessons into classrooms across Indiana.

More than 60 STEM educators gathered at Ross-Ade Stadium on Thursday for a day of interactive learning through Purdue University’s new partnership with LEGO Education.

According to Emily Kinsell, Chief of Staff for Purdue University’s College of Science, the workshop is designed to help teachers confidently introduce artificial intelligence into everyday classroom instruction while ensuring lessons align with state curriculum standards.

“We’re helping teachers bring AI into the classroom so students can learn to think critically,” Kinsell said. “Facilitators are making sure teachers have the tools and resources they need to pair AI education with curriculum standards.”

Rather than simply talking about artificial intelligence, teachers spent the day gaining hands-on experience with coding, robotics and classroom activities designed to make complex technology engaging and accessible for students of all ages.

The workshop aims to help educators build confidence teaching computer science while encouraging creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking among their students.

“Students learn best through hands-on learning,” Kinsell said. “They can build, explore, test ideas and discover solutions themselves. LEGO Education kits are broken down into lessons that teachers and students can immediately use in the classroom.”

The learning doesn’t end when the workshop wraps up.

Each educator will return to their school with three LEGO Education Computer Science and AI kits, giving students the opportunity to explore artificial intelligence through interactive lessons and real-world problem-solving activities.

“The most powerful part of this effort is that we aren’t just reaching 60 teachers today,” Kinsell said. “We’re reaching thousands of students, and they’ll inspire classrooms for years to come.”

As artificial intelligence continues to shape the future of education and the workforce, Purdue University hopes partnerships like this one will help prepare Indiana’s next generation with the knowledge and skills they’ll need for tomorrow’s careers.
