The state’s new enterprise AI platform serves as the Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services’ (OMES) consulting program, providing agencies with a shared and scalable framework for developing custom AI solutions.
“We’ve spent countless hours reviewing administrative rules to ensure they reflect the intent of the state Legislature and serve the people of Oklahoma,” state Sen. Micheal Bergstrom said Friday in a statement. “This tool will help us do that work more effectively and ensure government stays accountable.”
Oklahoma’s OMES Information Services division, led by state CIO Dan Cronin, developed the BEACON framework, which balances human oversight and the delivery of public value with the enablement of technology adoption.
The BEACON framework is as follows, per its website: “Boost agency mission objectives with emerging innovation and capabilities; Educate the workforce on AI and tech literacy to build a resilient future; Align priorities, trust and public value with sustainable investment; Create solutions that promote organizational adaptation and results; Operate through shared, secure, and scalable ecosystem technologies; and Normalize innovation for speed, scale, and sustainable growth.”
The state currently has two “lighthouse applications” in beta testing as its first solutions developed through BEACON.
First, the Administrative Rules Modernization application involves an AI-powered tool to help policymakers and state employees review administrative rules and find opportunities to simplify regulations. The intention is to simplify processes for both residents and businesses.
Second, the Procurement Guidance Assistant is an AI-powered tool providing state staffers with real-time information about purchasing policies and procedures. It’s intended to improve both efficiency and compliance.
“Through BEACON, agencies can rapidly build and deploy AI solutions on a secure, governed platform rather than starting from scratch,” Phan said in a statement.
The platform offers a preapproved, secure architecture to support alignment with state standards as agencies look to build and implement new technologies.
